Thomas Circle Singers Presents Love & Marriage on May 22
Local Non-Profit Will Benefit from All Ticket Sales
WASHINGTON, DC - April 15, 2005
- The Thomas Circle Singers (TCS) and Orchestra closes its 2004-2005 Concert Season with Love & Marriage.
This concert will feature ceremonial wedding music and musical
expressions of love by Bach, Pinkham, Mathias, Duruflé, Clausen,
Willan, Marenzio. All of the concert proceeds will benefit the
Episcopal Senior Ministries' subsidiary-Christian Communities Group
Homes, Inc., a local non-profit organization that provides housing and
care for low-income seniors.
The concert will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 22, at National City Christian Church, 5 Thomas Circle, NW, Washington, DC.
Among the selections TCS will perform is Bach's Cantata 196 Der Herr denket an uns
(The Lord cares for us). Bach probably composed this cantata when he
was employed in the city of Mühlbach (1707-1708). It is a
short cantata consisting of a sinfonia, two choruses, a soprano solo,
and a tenor and bass duet. "This is one of Bach's earliest
cantatas, and the music is both joyful and warm," states TCS Artistic
Director James Kreger.
Serving as a stylistic compliment to the Bach is Daniel Pinkham's Wedding Cantata.
This four-movement work is scored for chorus, strings, and two
horns. Pinkham's highly rhythmic and vocal choral writing
exquisitely captures the meaning of these texts drawn from the Song of
Songs.
An Award-Winning Organization
TCS has long striven to "Transform the City through Song," with an
unparalleled commitment to both music and community service. TCS
performances have raised over $125,000 for local non-profit
organizations in the last six years alone. This season, TCS continues
the tradition by donating all concert ticket proceeds to groups that
provide critical programs and services to Washington, DC's elderly
population.
TCS combines superb musical artistry and compassionate social service,
donating all ticket proceeds to non-profit organizations that serve
Washington residents in need. TCS continues to receive
recognition for its musical excellence and its unique service to the
Washington community. Recent awards include Washingtonian
Magazine's "Washingtonian of the Year" in 2000 and Artistic Director
James Kreger's honor as a WETA-FM Hometown Hero award in 2001.
Episcopal Senior Ministries' (ESM) mission is to serve seniors and
their families throughout the Episcopal Diocese of Washington,
generation after generation. ESM is governed by a volunteer board
of Episcopalians from all regions of the Diocese. Christian
Communities Group Homes Inc. (CCGH), a subsidiary of ESM, has been
providing housing and care for low-income seniors since 1981.
CCGH operates three homes in Northeast Washington and supervises
hundreds of volunteers who help seniors with home maintenance, cleaning
and yard work through its Age-in-Place program. It is a part of
the District of Columbia Office on Aging Senior Service Network. To
learn more, visit www.esm.org/ccgh.htm.
A free reception will follow the performance. Tickets are $20 for
