WASHINGTON, DC - September 7, 2004 - The Thomas Circle Singers (TCS), under the artistic direction of James Kreger, announces the launch of its 29th season of choral excellence and community service.  Hailed by critics and the public alike for its combination of superior artistry and service to the community, TCS enters its 29th year with a commitment to continuing its social mission while presenting exceptional choral performances.

Hailed by the Washington Post as performing with “grace, silvery tone and high impact,” TCS presents an annual concert season that spans musical eras from the Renaissance to the present day.  The 2004-2005 concert season includes three concerts and a season preview event.  According to Kreger, “We have another year of spectacular choral music planned, offering something to appeal to the most eclectic of tastes.”  The season opens on Sunday, November 14, 2004, with a season preview concert, offering a sampling of music from the three subscription concerts.  A perennial favorite, A TCS Christmas, follows on Sunday, December 12, 2004, with the choir joined by orchestra to share the spirit of the holidays with Finzi In terra pax, and Rutter Brother Heinrich’s Christmas, and carols and motets of the Christmas season by Sweelinck, Poulenc, Willcocks, Convery, Gardner, and Mathias. The season continues on Saturday, March 12, 2005, with A 20th Century American Tapestry, featuring music of Mechem, Smith, Pinkham, Convery, Walker, and selections from Menotti.  TCS’s season concludes on Sunday, May 22, 2005, with Love & Marriage, a concert with orchestra, offering Bach’s Cantata 196 Der Herr denket an uns, Pinkham’s Wedding Cantata, and featuring music of Mathias, Duruflé, Clausen, Franck, Willan, Marenzio, Walton, and Vaughan Williams.  A list of times and locations is attached.

Recognized for its consistent musical excellence and unwavering commitment to the DC community, TCS performances have raised over $120,000 for local non-profit organizations in the last seven years alone.  This season TCS is proud to partner with non-profit organizations that provide critical program and services to Washington, DC’s elderly community and donating all ticket proceeds from its 2004-2005 season concerts to: Emmaus Services for the Aging, Downtown Cluster Geriatric Care Center, and Christian Communities Group Homes/Episcopal Senior Ministries.  TCS was founded in 1976, with the support of Luther Place Memorial Church, as a vehicle to raise funds for charities in Washington.  Over the years, TCS, known as “Voices That Make a Difference,” has served the city’s neediest residents.  In recognition of the Thomas Circle Singers’ unwavering commitment to the community, Washingtonian Magazine named TCS one of the Washingtonians of the Year in 2000.  In addition, WETA-FM honored artistic director James Kreger as a Hometown Hero in 2001.

TCS offers a reduced-price season subscription for $51 ($38 for students and seniors).  Individual tickets to concerts are $20, $15 for seniors and students.  TCS’s Annual Gala on Saturday, February 26, 2005, is a chance to party on the Circle while benefiting TCS.  Gala Underwriter tickets are $125, and Supporter tickets are $50.  To receive a brochure, to order individual or season tickets contact the Thomas Circle Singers: 1226 Vermont Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20005, (202) 232-3353, or info@thomascirclesingers.org.
