Passion and Prose featuring the world premiere of Gwyneth Walker’s A Heart in Hiding (The Passionate Love Poems of Emily Dickinson)

Local Non-Profit Will Benefit from All Ticket Sales

WASHINGTON, DCThe Thomas Circle Singers (TCS) will continue their 2006-2007 concert season with Passion and Prose on Saturday, March 24, at 8:00 p.m. at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church, 4700 Whitehaven Pkwy, NW, Washington, DC.  The concert will feature the world premiere of a TCS commission of Gwyneth Walker’s A Heart in Hiding (The Passionate Love Poems of Emily Dickinson). Under the direction of Artistic Director James Kreger, the chorus will be joined by mezzo Bailey Whiteman for this world premiere. The composer will be present at the concert and will speak about her new composition.

The concert will also include Kenneth Mahy’s Four Love Songs, Vincent Persichetti’s Flower Songs, and Robert Grenier’s “In Praise of Charity,” as well as works by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Jean Berger. In addition to poetry of Emily Dickinson, the concert will also feature settings of texts by e.e. cummings, Jean Racine, Christina Rosetti, Hans Christian Anderson and Rainer Maria Rilke.

TCS, a 32-voice mixed choral ensemble, is known for creative programming and performances of 20th and 21st century American and European choral music, all performed with finesse and exquisite musicality. For over thirty years, the Thomas Circle Singers has combined superb musical artistry and compassionate social service, donating all ticket proceeds to non-profit organizations that serve Washington, DC residents in need. All ticket proceeds from the March 24 concert will benefit the Carlos Rosario International School and Career Center.
